This project was made for Design Center: Communication Fundamentals taught by Anna Boyle. It's purpose is to explore the Gestalt principles (similarity, continuation, closure, proximity, figure/ground, and symmetry) using squares and ampersands.
The words I chose to represent are Dangerous, Safe, Quiet, and Noisy. I chose purple for my design because it is neutral. It is the purple used for video games and 2000's technology, representing noisy. With quiet, I thought about royalty.
My favorite part of this project was the Figure Ground portion. The very tiny square combinations make the tiles blend together. I was fortunate to be among the first to attend the Real World Engineering program in Portugal. After visiting the Tile Museum, I have become inspired to create a digital version using the p5.js library version of my design (be on the look out for these works).
All the designs were made in Adobe Illustrator.
